During my first semester at the CUNYJ School, I started working with Carmen Villavicencio, the Executive Editor for El Diario NY. She was always available and willing to work on my daybook and enterprise stories, while I developed a better understanding and engagement with the communities of Washington Heights and Inwood, and NYC as a whole.
Residents from around the city prepare for the worst, as they attend information sessions and workshops on immigrant rights in Upper Manhattan and Lower East Side, in the face of possible immigration raids and regulatory or arbitrary encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and NYPD officers.

Hace justo un año, los Reyes Magos me dejaron tremenda travesía de regalo. Aunque todo comenzó con dos noticias que me dejaron perpleja, el recorrido ha cambiado mi manera de ser y ha redireccionado mi vida en familia. Y sí, las noticias fueron malas, la verdad, muy malas que, en el fondo, tienen su bien.
After living in Dominican Republic for 18 years and getting my career started in the Spanish Caribbean, it was a challenge to set my head back into my native English and be proficient at it, when reporting became part of the equation. Editor Karen Pennar with Voices of NY gave me the opportunity to put my voice out in both languages. A win-win for us.

Residentes de Washington Heights, Inwood y Marble Hill asistieron al sexto acto de rendición de cuentas sobre el estado del Distrito 10 de la Ciudad de Nueva York, organizado por la oficina del representante del distrito y concejal dominicano Ydanis Rodríguez, el pasado 30 de octubre de 2016.
Nueve días antes de la celebración, los feligreses organizan sus apretadas agendas para adorar a la virgen misericordiosa. Preparan comida típica, coordinan diversos grupos de oración y visten trajes tradicionales traídos desde sus respectivas tierras.
