Professor Tom Robbins, the investigative journalist in residence at the CUNYJ School at the time of my 2017 graduation, contacted me before we met. He asked if I’d be interested in sharing my views about journalism and Latinos in the US on a TV show. Former councilwoman and activist Ronnie Eldridge wanted to take an episode to talk with journalists, considering the hostil rhetoric the Trump administration has had with immigrants, with Latinos, and most media people.

Desde muchacho, bailaba salsa en los sembradíos de sus abuelos en México. Cada verano, cruzaba la frontera San Diego – Tijuana para ayudarlos a trabajar la tierra. El hoy agente federal del servicio de inmigración y control de aduanas (ICE, en inglés) se familiarizó desde muy joven con la frontera de su natal California, cuando regresaba a suelo estadounidense para ir a la escuela o al servicio militar.

Parishioners share some TLC w/ Puerto Ricans

We were all worried for those in the Caribbean. My grandmother’s relatives, my husband’s parents, my cousins and most of my friends and colleagues live in Dominican Republic. And, it was only logical to fear for the flooding and mayor food loss we know the islands would go through during the hurricane season. But this one was different. In a matter of hours, that hurricane, María, traveled towards and hit Puerto Rico right in the middle.

Periodismo hecho lujo en un Town Hall en Washington Heights

Residentes de la comunidad se quejaron de la burocracia que afecta el servicio en las oficinas públicas, mientras los organizadores se nutrían de las denuncias sin resolver.

Parecía una convención de mujeres en el Centro Geriátrico Isabella Home: cuatro panelistas hablaron sobre discriminación y racismo en sus espacios de trabajo, otras dos mujeres tradujeron el encuentro en tiempo real para los angloparlantes presentes y la mayoría de los casi 130 que entraban y salían del salón eran madres con sus muchachos al hombro y señoras en edad de retiro.
